Who we are
To create a safe and fun place for all those who wish to partake, to make friends, bond and create everlasting relationships, to create a wonderful social environment for all, to uphold Jewish values and life, to work to better our immediate community, and our surrounding community, to inspire social action, to inspire further learning, we the children, sworn to the following principles and regulations set forth by the first Supreme Leaders and executive board, hereby official form the Sha’aray Shalom Temple Youth Group, a Youth Group associated with Congregation Sha’aray Shalom, and the Union For Reform Judaism’s Northern Federation for Temple Youth’s Northeast chapter. We are prepared to take up the task as beneficial members of the Youth Group. We promise to uphold, and follow these guidelines to maintain the level of excellency and efficiency in the youth group. Whatever it takes to fulfill our mission is nothing less than the duty of every person involved. We stand together.
Ben Koplovsky - Past-President/Youth advising Member
My name is Ben Koplovsky and I currently serve as the President of SHASTY. I am currently a junior at Duxbury high school. In my spare time I enjoy playing the Bassoon, and I also work two jobs. My role in SHASTY is to oversee the operations of the SHASTY board, in conjunction with the Adviser, and to make sure that SHASTY is creating a safe and accepting environment for all who wish to join. Olivia Boise - Programming Vice President
My name is Olivia Boise and I am a junior at Hanover High School. I play varsity volleyball and love listening to music. I am the programming vice president for SHASTY, and work to coordinate our events. My goals are to create creative, inclusive events for the temple youth.
Rebecca Rosenbaum - NFTY Representative
My name is Rebecca Rosenbaum. I am in 9th grade and I am SHASTY's NFTY Representative. In my spare time I enjoy acting, surfing, walking my dog, and of course, NFTY! As the NFTY rep, I promote NFTY events to members of SHASTY in order to help them connect with other youth groups around the region, and get them involved in the teenage Jewish community. My goal for SHASTY is for us to be known throughout the NFTY-NE region as a welcoming and fun youth group!
Avery Koplovsky - Underclassmen Representative
My name is Avery Koplovsky and I am in 9th grade. I am part of the SHASTY board as the underclassman representative. My role is to engage the 8th and 9th graders and to encourage them to participate in SHASTY events. My goal is to help create a friendly and fun Jewish community at Congregation Sha'aray Shalom and to help everyone feel welcome.
Molly Maravel - Secretary
Hi, my name is Molly Maravel! I am in 11th grade at Hingham High School and I am the secretary of SHASTY. I am in charge of taking notes during the meetings, and encouraging lots of people to come to events. My goals for SHASTY are to make sure that everyone is included in all the events and that everyone feels accepted. I am also on the varsity rowing team at Hingham High, and actively participate with Amnesty International, Model UN, the Red Cross, the Global Citizenship Club, and Girls Learn International. SHASTY is awesome!
Michael Creager - Youth Group Advisor
My name is Michael Creager and I am the SHASTY youth group advisor. During the week I work as a research technician at Brigham and Women's Hospital. My ultimate goal is to attend Medical School. I also function as the 9th grade Hebrew School teacher, and the congregation music teacher. In my spare time, I like to read, to ski, and to play music. My goal for SHASTY is to create a welcoming and inclusive environment for any Jewish youth in the south shore area; to create a sustainable temple youth group that functions both independently and in conjunction with the larger NFTY Northeast region; and most importantly, to have fun! As the kids say these days - SHASTY is lit!
Melaney Jenkins - President
My name is Melaney Jenkins and I am the Communications Vice President for SHASTY. I am in charge of keeping everyone updated with the fun and new exciting things happening with SHASTY! My goal for SHASTY is to be able to get more kids involved and to develop our social media presence. We have a Facebook group (SHASTY 2017-2018), Instagram (@shastyyouthgroup), and Twitter (@shastyyouth) - be sure to check us out! Currently I'm a junior at Hull High School, and I spend my free timeparticipating in my schools theater productions, working on SHASTY events, and as always, my school woork. I am also a member of the National Honor Society of the Hull High Chapter. I encourage everyone to come join SHASTY because it is truly something that you don't want to miss!
Molly Schwall - Merchandise and Fundraising Vice President
My name is Molly Schwall and I am a sophomore at Hingham High School. I am the Merchandise and Fundraising Vice President, and I help Shira with social action planning. I play volleyball at school and I am also on a club team. I love to sing in the school chorus and outside of school as well in a chorus in Boston through the Handel and Hayden society. I am the treasurer at Girls Learn International. I joined SHASTY last year as the underclassman representative and am so glad to have gotten involved. SHASTY is a really welcoming group and is so much fun to be a part of. My goals for SHASTY are to get more people involved and to make everyone feel welcomed.
Aileen McDonald - Underclassmen Representative
Cantor Steven Weiss
Cantor Steven Weiss is the Cantor and Director of Education at Congregation Sha’aray Shalom in Hingham, Massachusetts. He has developed innovative musical and educational programs for the entire congregation. His ever-popular Bible to Broadway, Friday Night Live Musical Shabbat and Adult and Children’s Choirs have enriched the Jewish life of both children and adults. He oversees the development of SHASTY. In addition to his work within the Congregation, is also a board member of the Young Leadership Division of Combined Jewish Philanthropies of Boston. He has served on the executive committee of the URJ Commission on Synagogue Management and as a member of the executive board of the American Conference of Cantors.
